Run For Your Wife at The Mill at Sonning

A serving of delicious farce is once again on the menu at The Mill!

If you enjoyed Move Over, Mrs Markham last year you will be delighted to welcome back the King of Farce, Ray Cooney. Ray will once again direct his own play - Run For Your Wife - his funniest and most acclaimed ever!

John Smith is a happy London taxi driver, working shifts. But he has one little problem. He is married. Twice! He has one wife, Mary, in Wimbledon. And another wife, Barbara, in Streatham. John keeps to a rigorous schedule so that never the twain shall meet. Everyone is blissfully happy - especially John Smith!

One day, gallantly intervening in a mugging, he is taken to hospital with concussion. The police become involved. John panics and enlists the help of neigbour Stanley. Bad choice! Stanley is shambolic, disorganised and when it comes to conniving - clueless! The hapless duo embark on a series of wildly implausible explanations. The more they lie, the deeper the hole they dig, and the more the situation all starts to go horribly but riotously wrong.

This is classic Cooney at his absolute best. Run For Your Wife has delighted audiences with smash-hit runs all over the world. So come along to laugh and laugh until you cry.

All tickets include a delicious two-course meal in the restaurant before the show.

Calon Lan - The Musical

to Jul 6

Calon Lan - The Musical

Literally translated as Pure Heart, 'Calon Lân' tells the epic and remarkable true story of Evan Roberts, a 26 year-old miner from Swansea. In 1904 Evan started having nightly visitations from God. The reason for the visitations soon became clear. Evan's mission was to lead a worldwide revival. His goal? Was to save a hundred thousand souls!

This is a tale of passion and love, family and jealousy, sacrifice and pride. His betrayal was brutal.
With a broken heart how can you save the world? People thought him crazy; his family all but disowned him and scandal dogged him, but in only a matter of a few short years Evan's Revival would save over half a million souls across the world.

But at what cost to Evan?
Set against the hardship and struggles of industrial Wales in 1904, Evan Roberts finds himself fighting mine owners, union leaders and pillars of the Church and society, armed only with his faith, his Bible and a group of teenage girls known as 'The Singers of Dawn'.
When you threaten the establishment, it's only a matter of time before the establishment will threaten you.
Drawing on a rich Welsh heritage of hymns and arias, Mal Pope has written a scintillating score, which will fill Swansea Grand Theatre this summer. With a cast including some of the finest Welsh West End performers this all-new production will be the perfect celebration for Swansea's 50th Birthday this year.

Directed by Maxine Evans (director of The Revlon Girl, Olivier Nominee 2018).
Words and music by Mal Pope.

Homegrown Walkabout Theatre in Williamson Park

Country bumpkin D’Artagnan comes to the big city with a big dream: to become a Musketeer. But when he accidentally becomes embroiled in the sinister schemes of Cardinal Richelieu, it doesn’t seem likely he’ll survive long enough. Especially as this would-be Musketeer is hiding a huge secret: “he” is really a “she”…

Take a swashbuckling adventure through beautiful Williamson Park this summer, as D’Artagnan teams up with the legendary Three Musketeers, Porthos, Athos and Aramis, in a death-defying quest to save the life of a loving Queen.

Inventive stagecraft, witty dialogue and energetic swordplay will bring Alexandre Dumas’ classic novel to life in a brand new adaptation with a thoroughly modern twist.

Thrill as D’Artagnan takes on three duels at once! Gasp as Milady weaves her evil intrigues! Cheer as the Musketeers save the day at the last possible moment (we hope!)

Move Over Mrs Markham! at The Mill at Sonning

Move Over Mrs Markham! at The Mill at Sonning

This wonderful farce is set in an elegant, recently renovated London flat belonging to the happily married Philip and Joanna Markham.

Philip, a straight-laced publisher of children's books, has reluctantly agreed to let his partner Henry Lodge borrow the apartment for an evening to entertain a new girlfriend. At the same time, Joanna Markham has allowed Linda Lodge to borrow the apartment so she can rendezvous with her lover. What nobody knows is that the Interior Designer has also decided that this is the night he wants to try out the new oval bed - with the au pair girl!

When the Markhams' evening out is cancelled, it's too late to let any of the parties know and three sets of hopeful lovers all converge on the bedroom at the same time.

The situation is further complicated by the arrival of Olive Harriet Smythe, a dour and successful authoress.

The frantic efforts of the Markhams to hide the amorous goings-on and, at the same time, sign up Miss Smythe, lead to a hectic and hilarious evening where, as in all farces, chaos and confusion reign.

Don't miss this saucy, sparkling and riotously funny treat. You won't stop laughing!
